Dune DoctorsLLC was founded in 2000 to fight the erosion problems that endanger the beautiful beaches of the Atlantic and Gulf coasts.

“We offer to restore, build up and stabilize your dunes in a fraction of the time it would take Mother Nature to reconstruct the environment,” says Frederique Perret, founder of Dune Doctors.

With the help of Dune Doctors, you will be able to enjoy the beauty of the dunes now, while preventing further erosion of your waterfront property.

We understand that you would like your dune as strong as possible and for the longest duration. Yet nothing will resist a hurricane category 4 or 5 direct hit. However, we can provide you with solutions to limit damage.

Whether sand has just been placed to initiate the construction of a dune, or nothing but flat bare sand prevails on the beach, the starting point is to stabilize the base. In some cases, we bring sand with a tractor and create a berm (to stabilize the base). If you already have this base installed, you have a great start!

Next we continue by installing sand fence. The sand fence is installed with two 7 feet posts. The sand fence is anchored 3.5 feet deep in the dune.

Finally we plant grasses like Panic grasses (Panicum amarum), Spartinas (Spartina bakerii and patens) and of course Sea Oats (Uniola paniculata). These grasses, if installed correctly and in good ratio, will build a deep net of roots that will hold and stabilize the core of the dune.

It only takes a few months for these grasses to become well established.

The grasses’ roots build a deep net and hold the dune from the “inside”. Also, don’t forget the surface of the dune, the sand between the clusters of grasses is still exposed to possible wind erosion.

Restoration of your dunes will bring you a lifetime of pleasure and beauty, add value to your property, and preserve one of our natural treasures.
